CHAPMAN, JOHN JAY. Memoir of Isaac H. Klein. [New York: 1920]. 1st ed. 8vo. [8 pp.]. Orig. self wraps. $125.00
Isaac Klein was Chapman's partner and business manager in the reform paper, The Nursery. Much of his later life was spent in settlement work at the Madison House. Of this memoir, Richard Hovey wrote: "In spirit, it is one of the tenderest things Chapman ever wrote." It was never collected by Chapman, but stands as one of his most important humane statements of the 1920's, a period of considerable bigotry in Chapman's public utterances. |
