One of a spate of laudatory biographies published in the wake of Taylor?s military successes in Mexico, helping to propel him to the presidency in 1848. The anonymous author indicates that a sequel dealing with the latter months of the war, describing the exploits of Gen. Winfield Scott, is in the works. The full-page illustrations, one of which is signed in the plate ?J Gilbert,? comprise an unidentified battle scene, plus ?Taylor and His Generals? and ?Attack on the Kentucky Brigade.? There is also a cut of Taylor ?Visiting the Troops? and a half-page illustration, ?Charge of Capt. May.? Not in Sabin. |
