Those taking the oath will be given a certificate. Those excluded from taking the oath ?��can make applications for pardon and restoration of civil rights, which applications will be received and forwarded thought the proper channels for the action of the President of the United States--The fact that such persons have come forward and taken the Oath of Allegiance will be evidence of their intention to resume the status of Loyal Citizens and constitute claim for executive clemency.?�� Surrender at Appomattox occurred on April 9, 1865 and Lee?��s army was disbanded three day later, ending the war in Virginia.
