With two distinct American ink signatures on the title leaf, one of Benjamin Lynde, the early Massachusetts jurist, dated 1697, and Joseph Perkins, Massachusetts lawyer and soldier, dated 1797. On the front pastedown is the ink signature of Samuel A. Bradley, dated at Boston, March 1, 1804.

Benjamin Lynde was a lawyer and served as chief justice of the province of Massacchusetts (DAB).

Joseph Perkins (1772-1803) was a lawyer and soldier from Ipswich and Salem, Massachusetts, and a Harvard 1794 graduate.

Samuel Bradley was a descendant from the branch of the Bradley family which established itself in Concord, New Hampshire, as early as 1729. He entered Dartmouth in 1795, where he began a friendship with Daniel Webster. In 1803 he began the practice of law in Fryeburg. He served in the General Court of Maine, and opposed the war with Great Britain and the separation of Maine.
