LYTTON, EDWARD GEORGE (BULWER-LYTTON). Pelham Novels. Vol. I-VII. [Spine labels]. New York: J. & J. Harper, 1831-33. 1st & 2nd American editions. 12mo. Uniform contemporary speckled calf, leather labels. Hinges on vol. I cracked. Lacking vol. II of Clifford (vol. VIII). $650.00
A remarkable set bound contemporaneously with consecutive numbered labelling. Includes two volumes each of Devereux (1831: Imprints 8038), Disowned 1833: Imprints 19819, Pelham (1832: Imprints 13472, plus the first volume of Clifford (1832: Imprints 13471). These early American editions are very rare, and this is a very appealing set in uniform period binding, produced as a set (according to the labels), although not recorded as a collected set of Lytton's works. |
