Wright I, 1203a. S & S 2409. Very scarce. The eighth or ninth printing of this early American novel set during the American Revolution. This enormously popular tale appeared in 1794 and was reprinted at least 11 times before 1834. It "illustrates the relationship sometimes existing between the novel of adventurous travel and the semi-historical novel. In its cheerful conglomeration of improbabilities it agreeably suggests a prophetic caricature of the modern tale of adventure"-Loshe, p. 64.
