S & S 13743. Col. W.S. Smith, a Revolutionary soldier, and Samuel Ogden, a merchant, aided Francisco de Miranda to deceitfully recruit 200 Americans to sail to South America bent upon revolution. They were tried for complicity in fitting out Miranda's filibustering expedition to South America, but were acquitted, while some of the recruits, including Smith's nephew, were captured by the Spanish remained for years in Carthagena Prison.
