Philadelphia: 1810. 8vo. plus ad leaf. Contemp. tree calf. Title to vol. I soiled, lower inner corner repaired. A very good set. $200.00
This edition in English is not in Imprints. It includes both parts of Dufief's Le Lecteur Francais. "Despite the fact that Dufief's innovations in language teaching were 'attacked,' as he stated it, 'both privately and publicly, with a rage bordering upon madness," Dufief persisted and the 1804 first edition sold more than 3000 copies, and was succeeded by numerous editions up to 1848. See Stern, "An Early Bookman of the Republic," American Book Collector, July 1985. |
