Shoemaker 19422 for # 1, the address of the Society to the Chrsitian public. Dating of all the tracts is circumstantial, but 1820s and 1830s, most recorded under title or author in the Imprints Survey, dated 18--. LCP/HSP Afro-Americana Catalogue, 9285 for # 7, The Happy Negro. Completeness of the series is shown by the indices at the end of vol. VIII, which includes an alphabetical index of the titles, first lines of hymns, first lines of hymns on the covers of tracts, and an index to the subjects (the latter calls for 255 numbered tracts, recording a # 254; neither # is in the other indices), all for the first eight volumes. According to Hamilton 1440, the Nov. 1831 issue of The American Tract Magazine contains a sketch of this series, listing 255 tracts. While we find it probable that our set is complete it should also be observed that this important series of tracts is rarely found together in an inclusive run.
