Frontis. detached, but present. A very attractive volume. $250.00

     

    Contains 23 biographical notices of Union officers dead early in the war, including E.E. Ellsworth, Theodore Winthrop (by George W. Curtis), and Sullivan Ballou, about half written by the editor, Shea. The Rhode Islander, Sullivan Ballou, has lately found fame as one of the superb letter writers-home on Ken Burns' acclaimed PBS series on the Civil War. On the front pastedown is the ink signature of the Rhode Island historian S.G. Arnold, dated Feb. 1862.
