Wright III, 1068. The author, a formerly a member of the Pacific Stock Exchange, writes in a preface: "San Francisco owes its present position mainly to mining, which is an honorable calling. For years the efforts of some of its leading capitalists have been directed to the false theory that 'the market' and not mining is the legitimate means by which wealth is to be accumulated."
