The second work by the biographer of Alcott, Brown, Thoreau, Howe and others. Sanborn opened a school in Concord in 1855, and was arrested in 1860 for refusing to testify before a Senate committee investigating John Brown's raid at Harpers Ferry. Sanborn was Brown's New England agent, and one of a few New England abolitionists to actively support Brown's invasion of the federal arsenal. |
