RUSH, JAMES. The Philosophy of the Human Voice: Embracing Its Physiological History; Together with a System of Principles...to which is added a Brief Analysis of Song and Recitative. Philadephia: 1833. 2nd ed. 8vo. 432 pp. Full contemp. calf, a very good copy. $150.00 B & B 21025. Very scarce. First published in 1827, Rush (the son of Benjamin Rush) was disappointed with the lack of critical response, but persisted through five more editions by 1866. The book did earn its admirers, and became a pioneer work in the analysis of the voice into the 20th century. |
