BAL 7604, binding B with the March 1851 catalogue, printing A. Clark A 17.1.b (second printing of April 1851.). On the fly leaf is the ink signature of F. A. Durivage, dated April 16th, 1851. Francis Alexander Durivage was a prolific novelist and a voluminous contributor of articles, short stories, poems, etc. to newspapers and magazines. Cf. Wright & DAB. He was a nephew of Edward Everett and a contemporary of Hawthorne. A fine literary association with a very early signature.
