    (VERMONT). Irasburgh, Vermont, Hardware Merchant?��s Ledger Book.�?1866-67. 287 pp.�?7 x 13.5 inches. Contemp. 3/4 calf backed boards, worn. Ink slightly faded, but intact and legible. $425.00

     

    The ledger shows sales of fire irons, copper bottomed boiler, nails, pipe collars, stoves, pails, augers, bits, shoe shapes, spittoon, sheep clippers, etc. There are many deposits in Irasburgh National Bank of Orleans and dealings with Boston Lumber Company.

    Possibly one of the books of�? Lorenzo C. Grandy (1833-1886), a hardware merchant and in 1880, a lumberman. Page 226 shows his name ?��by inventory of goods & accts settled to this date--April 17, 1867. 1713.63. He may have been in business with one D.C. Kinion (?). A few of the dozens of customer names shown are Geo. Nye, Elijah Cleveland, Abby Kendale, Charles Crandall, John Lawrence, and Jacob Greenwood.

    Irasburgh, Vermont, is one of three Vermont towns named for Ira Allen, the principal grantee in 1781. A very small town in the 1860s, the population today is only 1,077.
