Francis, 1833. 1st ed. 8vo. 288 pp. With 73 beautifully colored flowers in upper half of text pages; complete. Orig. green cloth, rebacked with original spine laid down. Some plates with more than one figure. Occasional foxing in text; endleaves more heavily foxed. Corners bumped. Very nice. $4,000.00


    B & B 17919 (five copies). Not in Bennett. An extraordinary American work, most beautiful, with valuable American historical text, apparently the virtually unknown first American florist's manual with colored plates. Contains a dictionary of botanical terms, discussion of leaves, mosses, transplanting, genera, characteristics of genera, structures of flowers, propagation of flowers, greenhouses, pruning, etc. Each flower is discussed scientifically and historically within the United States.
