    Super Historical Colored Lithograph


    (NEW YORK). (GREAT FIRE of 1835). The Great Fire of the City of New York, 16 December 1835. Print size: 16" x 20," with substantial margins and appealing coloring. New York: H.R. Robinson, January 1836. Rebacked (original pieces lacking all margins). Several inches in upper left corner (sky & very small portion of building) lacking, but replaced professionally with appropriate coloring. Price of an undamaged image would be substantially higher. Fires, major buildings, firemen, fire equipment and crowds of onlookers undamaged. $1,850.00


    Peters, p. 103, under J.T. Bowen. One of two prints from Bowen's New York period of which Peters knew: "...and an important American lithograph....Drawn from life and nature on stone by Hoffy. (Copyright 1836 by H.R. Robinson.) Printed and colored by J.T. Bowen, 16.4 x 23.10, with portraits and reference numbers. For our copy to meet Peters' width, we would need to include margins.

    Under Robinson, Peters writes: "Robinson published some very interesting and important views. The most important is the view of the 1835 fire, drawn on stone by Hoffy and printed by Bowen..."
