A fine example of an early period notebook which features mathematical problems and accompanying hand written diagrams. The book is divided into chapter headings and may have used by a teacher in a classroom. The cover reads: “Extraction of the Square Root”, and gives a page of instructions. Problems deal with mathematical compasses and include many hand illustrated examples. Right angled geometry and trigonometry is also included and problems dealing with land area are emphasized; i.e. finding acreage of plots. Might have been used in the training of land surveyors.
