Engraved portraits of Washington, Rush and Lawrence, by David Edwin. Orig. tree calf, gilt spine with leather labels. Two other portraits are lacking. Old ink damage to the lower corners of several leaves at the beginning of vol. 4. $450.00

     

    S & S 30649. Sabin 705. A very scarce set. See DAB for an account of Alden, clergyman, college president and antiquarian, whose "habit from early youth, whenever he visited any town, was to spend much time in its old burial ground, transcribing the epitaphs of the worthies of former days...which he later published in five volumes..." Volume one was first published in 1812.

    David Edwin was the most prolific engraver of portraits during this period.
