    The Index  of eleven pages contains an alphabetical listing of common medical problems for the period and provides page numbers for the next fifty-five pages where one finds bibliographic references to more information about the various medical conditions. Listed are nearly 450 medical conditions of the place and period, including alcoholism, asthma, acne, abortion: causes and treatment, blood transfusion, baldness, cholera, cancer and skin diseases, cold treatments, psychological treatment for emotion phisology, insanity, hydrophobia, infanticide, suicide, melancholia and mania.

    Other concerns indexed are midwifery, yellow fever, hay fever, typhoid fever, heart diseases and heart problems, hygiene, infectious diseases, respiratory problems, malaria, meningitis, measles, pneumonia, arthritis, sciatica, small pox, scarlet fever, spinal diseases, syphilis, gonorrhea, tuberculosis, vaccination, and a prescription for wrapping patients in bundles of corn.

    Robertson, 1831-87, most likely practiced medicine in Muscatine, Iowa. He was also a professor of Theory and Practice of Medicine and Clinical Medicine at the University of Iowa. We have catalogues for 1882-83 and 1883-84 which show that Dr. Robertson taught Medical Clinics on Monday and Medical Cases on Thursday during these academic years. We have added a 10-page list of diseases, drugs and treatments.
