Rosenbach 175. S & S 34058. Early use of stereotype plates. Rosenbach considers this to be a prospectus for a work to be completed in sixteen numbers, but the preface indicates no such limited purpose, but states that these are "the two first numbers."

While this volume may have been used for advertising, it is simply all published. In fact, in an editorial note, Whiting & Watson, who are described on the title as the publishers, declare that these two numbers differ from what was proposed "in the original prospectus". Additionally, "[t]o whatever accuracy and merit their edition may lay claim, the labours of [C.C. Moore] largely contribute." The author of "Twas the night before Christmas..."Moore was also a Hebrew scholar, but however substantial his contributions to this work, he is not given an credit for authorship or editorship and is unlisted for this work by BAL.

"Composed and Printed by Fanshaw and Clayton. Stereotyped by D. & G. Bruce."
