[DOW, LORENZO.]. The Opinion of Dow; or, Lorenzo's Thoughts, on Different Religious Subjects, in an Address to the People of New England. Windham, [Ct.]: J. Byrne, 1804. 1st ed. 18mo. 164 pp. Contemp. calf. Text browned. Worming in last few leaves. Lacks front endpaper. $600.00

S & S 6190. One of the first works of the famed travelling evangelist who had an enormous influence upon grass-roots religion in early 19th century America, discussing pre-existence of man as early 19th century doctrine. These are Mormon parallel beliefs, and today the work is important for that reason. Demonstrating the importance of Dow in early Mormon life, Brigham Young's brother was named for Dow, as probably was Lorenzo Snow. Thanks to Rick Grunder for this information.
