(DARWIN). WRIGHT, R.W. Life Its True Genesis. New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1880. 1st ed. 8vo. 298 pp. Orig. cloth. $75.00

"He was probably best known, nationally, for his anti-Darwinian study...in which he developed a variation of the vitalistic explanation. The book appeared late in the controversy and, though widely reviewed by the religious and secular press, was ignored by the leading controversialists, and can be said to have had no real influence." Wright was an amateur scientist, as well as a newspaper editor and lawyer. See DAB.
