(COLOR PLATE ANNUAL). MOORE, HENRY D. (Editor). The Winter-Bloom. With Nine Brilliant Illuminations, in Oil Colors. Philadelphia: Hogan & Thompson, [1850]. 1st ed. 8vo. 240 pp. Orig. gilt decorated cloth, faded. Foxed. $500.00

Thompson, American Literary Annuals, p. 161. Bennett, U.S. Color Plate Books, p. 80 (dated here 1852). One illustration is signed by Devereux; not recorded by Hamilton. A seldom encountered Bennett title.

The colored prints "have been prepared at a great expense, and printed in the highest style of the art, with recent and original improvements, under the sole auspices of the publishers. They are regarded by many as being superior in pleasing and attractive beauty to line engravings or mezzotints, and as being more artistical, life-like and laborious in their execution." --Preface. These are colored wood block prints, certainly among the earliest published in America.
