    With a curious inscription in ink on the verso of the title: "Dr. Logan. This elegant philosopher has impressed on all his works the seal of genius; & his posthumous compositions became even popular. His unrevised Lectures on History, bearing the name of another person, were given to the world in 'A View of Ancient History.' [Isaac] D'Israeli."

    DNB reports this work with Rutherford's name on the title is ascribed, as D'Israeli states, to John Logan.

    Isaac D'Israeli, the father of the British statesman, Benjamin D'Israeli, "is most celebrated as the author of the Curiosities of Literature (1791-93-1817-23-34)," but was widely known in his day as both writer of literature and historian, taking part is several literary controversies.
