A salesman's dummy for the greatest biographical work on Lincoln until well into the 20th century, with a great amount of text & illustration (a normal sized book, ca. 300 pages). Pasted to the front two endpapers are reprints of reviews of the work (one dated 1891), and in the back are two subscriber's pages with printed titles, plus lined sheets for further names. Contains names of more than 20 subscribers in Massachusetts, but no list of bindings available or their costs, nor even the number of volumes in the set. The binding would seem to be a trial binding, with only a gilt stamped title on front cover, but without publisher or author.
