On the Burning of the Bowery Theatre

(THEATRE). DILKS, J. S. ALS, 3 pp., 4to. in ink, Sept. 22, 1836, to E[dmund] Dean in Buffalo, N.Y. New York: 1836. Some browning, but very good, docketed, with New York City postmark. $200.00

Dilks, whose stage name was Mons. John La Thorne, writes to the theatre manager in Buffalo, announcing the total desctruction by fire of the Bowery Theatre, also consuming all scenery, dresses, instruments and music. With other show business news, including the information that, "I am getting out a piece for Celeste called 'The Maid of Cashmere, an operatic melodrama.'"
