    BAL 11, form A. Wright, III, 17. "Leisure-Hour Series--No. 112. First edition, first state of Adams' novel, which deals with the corruption in government resulting from a capitalistic economy. With all the correct first state points as described by BAL.

    "Adams is possibly the most difficult of all American writers (certainly of historians) to collect because of his penchant for anonymity and private printing. His anonymous Democracy An American Novel is known in first edition, first state only by the Lilly Library copy and one privately owned copy..." David A. Randall, Dukedom Large Enough., p. 37.
