First edition of Struve's Catalogue of Stars reviewed and observed at the Dorpat Observatory. "The extraordinary facilities for observation afforded by the Fraunhofer achromatic encouraged him to undertake, February 11, 1825, a review of the entire heavens down to 15 south of the celestial equator, which occupied more than two years, and yielded, from an observation of above 120,000 stars, a harvest of about 2200 previously unnoticed composite objects." -Agnes Clerke, History of Astronomy, p. 52. "Struve's work brought him international fame, and he was a member of more than forty scientific academies, learned societies, and universities. In particular, he was a corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences from 1822 and a full member and honorary member for more than forty years. He was also a founding member of the Russian Geographical Society and chairman of its department of mathematical geography." -DSB, XIII, 108-113.
