BALLOU, ADIN. ALS. Nov. 5, 1831. 1 p. Approx. 150 words. In ink, right hand margin waterstained, text not damaged. $350.00

Meticulous letter to a merchant in Boston concerning the purchase and return of a child's cap which did not fit because of "a morbid growth of the head..." Ballou wishes a larger cap made and asks that the box he has used to return the small cap be used when the new cap is ready. The child was probably Adin, Jr., son of Ballou and his first wife, who died in 1833 at age ten, or possibly Pearley, Ballou's son by his second wife, who died in 1833 at age two.
