(ADVENTISM). [A Chronological Chart of the Visions of Daniel and John]. Untitled. Concord, N.H: J. Cummings [Lithographed by S.W. Chandler & Co., Boston], 1853. 59" x 39" oblong. Fine condition on a light cotton cloth, printed in black. $1,750.00 In 1852, Joseph Cummings, an Adventist elder and minister, claimed to have received "new light on the commencement and terminus of the periods of Daniel." He declared that the "disappointment" of 1843/4 was the result not of an error in William Miller's calculations, but in his choice of 508 A.D. as the initial date. Cummings believed that the periods of Daniel's prophecy, the 1260, the 1290, and the 1335 days ought to be calculated from 519 A.D., when church and state had been united together under an edict of the Emperor Justin. According to Cummings' new chronology, the resurrection would be accomplished in 1854 A.D. |
