    Wright III, 2412 (HEH only). Haycraft & Queen, "Two Centuries of Cornerstones," records Halsey's Old Sleuth, the Detective (1885) as the first Dime Novel detective story. Macon Moore is described as the orphan son of a Confederate colonel, killed while commanding a Georgia regiment when the son was eleven years old.
