Farre, M.D.  The Whole Illustrated by Coloured Engravings. London: 1811. 1st ed. 8vo. 43, 216 pp. Frontis. plus 8 plates, seven of which are colored. Old calf, scuffed. Frontis. somewhat frayed & loose; stains on frontis. & endpaper and slightly affecting title & last plate (uncolored).  Colored plates & text are clean.  With the early bookbinder's label of Guy C. Marsh of New-Haven, [Ct.]. $850.00

 

The most important work in ophthalmology by the founder of the Royal London Opthalmic Hospital, which records Saunders' use of belladonna for the treatment of eye disease.  Despite the statement on the title, copies of this book with the engraved plates colored appear to be very rare.
