Andrews, abolitionist, educator, communitarian, advisor to Victoria Woodhull, returned from Texas in 1844 to Boston where he intended to introduce Pitman's phonographic alphabet, not to improve business practices, but to more easily educate freed slaves, to offer a shortcut to literacy.
