(RECONSTRUCTION.). MORGAN, A[LBERT] T. Yazoo; or, On the Picket Line of Freedom in the South. A Personal Narrative. Washington, D.C: By the Author, 1884. 1st ed. 8vo. 521 pp. Orig. cloth. Front inner hinge partially cracked, a few small paper tears. $225.00

Howes M 795. Extremely readable account by the former sheriff and tax collector. A soldier in the Union army, Morgan arrived in Yazoo immediately after the war and leased a plantation to farm and cut timber. A local conspiracy caused him to lose his lease and he turned to politics--at which he was a leading figure during the Grant administrations.
